Balayage vs. Ombré: What’s the Difference?
If you’re after a natural, sun-kissed glow, balayage might be your perfect match. This freehand technique involves your colourist expertly painting soft highlights through your hair, keeping the roots darker and gradually lightening the lengths. The placement is completely tailored to you and designed to enhance your features and mimic where the sun would naturally lighten your hair.
Ombré, on the other hand, offers a more defined transition from dark to light. Starting with deeper tones at the roots, the colour gradually fades into lighter ends, creating a bolder contrast than balayage. It’s an ideal choice for brunettes wanting to experiment with blonde while keeping depth and dimension, or for anyone who loves a more striking gradient effect. And of course, the colour palette is completely up to you!

Face Frame Balayage & Money Piece Colour
Face frame balayage, also known as the "money piece" is one of the hottest colour trends right now, and it’s easy to see why. This technique involves adding brighter, contrasting highlights around the front of the hair to frame your face, enhance your features, and instantly lift your overall look.
Whether you’re after a striking platinum blonde money piece, soft dirty blonde face-framing highlights, or a subtle bronde balayage to complement your natural tones, our expert colourists at our hair salon in Broadway can customise the perfect shade for you. These bright pops of colour work beautifully with darker hair for high contrast, but can also be blended for a more seamless, sun-kissed finish.
Ideal for adding dimension, depth, and a touch of playful glamour, the money piece is a quick way to refresh your style without committing to a full head of colour. Let us help you achieve a look that’s modern, flattering, and completely tailored to you.
Foilayage Highlights
Foilayage is the perfect blend of balayage and traditional foiling techniques, giving you brighter, more defined highlights with a soft, natural blend. By using foils to intensify the lift, this technique creates a beautifully dimensional, sun-kissed look with a seamless finish. Ideal for those who want a bolder, lighter balayage effect with longer-lasting results.
Traditional foil highlights, on the other hand, involve sectioning the hair into precise, uniform strands from root to tip. This creates a more defined, structured highlight pattern, with a noticeable contrast between light and dark sections.

Blonde Balayage Hair Colours
Thinking of going blonde? A rooted blonde hair colour is the perfect way to lighten up your look without committing to a full head of blonde. This soft, low-maintenance style allows you to gradually transition into lighter tones, creating a sun-kissed effect that flatters all hair types and skin tones.

Colour Correction For Home Balayage Kits Gone Wrong
Tried a DIY balayage and not quite loving the results? You’re not alone. Home balayage kits often promise salon worthy hair colour, but they rarely deliver the seamless, blended finish you're hoping for. Common issues include brassy or yellow tones, uneven colour distribution, patchiness, or that dreaded harsh line between dark roots and lighter ends.
If your at home balayage hasn’t gone to plan, don’t panic and do not try to fix it yourself. Attempting to correct the colour with another box dye or bleach could lead to further damage, increased breakage, or an even more uneven result.
Instead, trust the colour correction experts at Muse Hair & Beauty Salon in Broadway, Worcestershire. Our experienced technicians know exactly how to restore over-processed or uneven hair colour results. From neutralising unwanted warmth, blending harsh lines, or lifting the colour more safely, we’ll develop a bespoke plan and work with you to get your hair looking and feeling healthy again.
We’ll also assess the condition of your hair and recommend strengthening treatments and colour-safe products to help repair any damage and keep your new colour looking vibrant and glossy.

Balayage FAQs
Do I need a skin test for balayage hair colour?
«Yes. You must come into the salon for an allergy test at least 48 hours before your hair colour appointment.
Do you offer free hair consultations near me?
«We do. We recommend booking in for a consultation with one of our team prior to your colour service.
Ombré vs Balayage – Which one is right for me?
«Choose ombré if you want a bold, defined transition from dark roots to lighter ends. Go for balayage if you prefer a softer, more natural blend with sun-kissed highlights. Both are low-maintenance. Your choice depends on how subtle or striking you want your colour to be!
Is root shadowing, root stretching & colour melts all the same thing?
«They’re similar techniques, but not exactly the same. All three are used to create a seamless blend between your natural root colour and lighter tones. Her's how they differ:
Root Shadowing: A slightly darker colour is applied at the roots and gently blended into the rest of the hair. It creates depth and a soft transition without a harsh line.
Root Stretching: Similar to root shadowing, but the darker colour is blended further down the hair shaft, creating a longer, more gradual fade.
Colour Melt: This technique blends multiple tones together from roots to ends, so there’s no obvious start or end point between colours. It’s the most blended and dimensional of the three.
How much does balayage cost?
«Pricing varies based on the stylist level you choose. For an accurate quote, please give us a call or book a free hair colour consultation at the salon.
